LEXINGTON, Va. – Strong performances in the 1,000-meter run, including a facility record, paced the George Mason men's and women's track and field teams over the weekend.
The Patriots competed at the Keydet Invitational hosted by VMI at the Corps Physical Training Facility on Friday and Saturday. Graduated student
Blaine Lacey and junior
Colin Cannon on the men's side and junior
Ashley Lewis for the women all ran faster the previous facility records in the 1,000-meter run.
Lacey set a facility record in the 1,000-meter run, winning the event with a time of 2:26.99. Cannon was in second with a time of 2:27.37, also running faster than the previous facility record time of 2:28.11 set by North Carolina State's Tim Bason last year.
Lewis took second in the 1,000-meter run in 2:49.48. Her time was faster than the previous facility record of 2:50.36 by Norfolk State's Martha Bissah. But Bissah ran five seconds faster on Saturday than her previous mark, setting a new facility record in 2:45.52. Lewis also placed third in the 400-meter dash (57.28).
In other women's events, senior
Sarah Moore placed third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.62. Fellow senior
Ciara Donohue also finished third in the 3,000-meter run in 10:08.06. Junior
Taylor Williams took fifth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.75.
The Patriots posted two top-five finishes in the pole vault with sophomore
Camryn Harris taking fourth (3.60 meters) and freshman
Hannah Robertson placing fifth (3.45 meters).
On the men's side, sophomore
Nick Corbin placed third in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.22. The 4x400-meter relay team of sophomore
Ian Christian, junior
Evander Pierre, senior
Kornelius Klah and junior
Tyler Benson finished second in 3:15.78.
Benson also took fifth in the 500-meter run in 1:04.36. Junior
Junias Agyei placed fifth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.98.
In the shot put, sophomore
Jaylen Simmons improved on his personal-best with a mark of 16.70 meters, which ranks as the third-longest throw in program history. In the weight throw, sophomore
Benjamin Viau finished fifth with a toss of 17.04 meters.
Freshman
Decker Barborek and sophomore
Harrison Shotwell tied for fifth as both cleared 4.60 meters.
The Patriots return home to host the Patriot Games this upcoming Friday and Saturday at the George Mason Field House.
