ABOUT THE TEAM!

Pride in Performance. Power in Presence.

The Masonettes, established in 1990, are the official dance team of George Mason University. For more than three decades, they have represented the university with passion, professionalism, and pride—on the court, in the classroom, on the national stage, and throughout the community. Rooted in the values of excellence, spirit, and integrity, the Masonettes honor the legacy of the dancers who came before them while continually raising the standard.

The Masonettes begin their season with summer practices and team preparation for National Dance Alliance (NDA) Camp. At camp, dancers learn new routines to be used throughout the season, improve their technical skills, and participate in team-building activities that set the foundation for a strong season.
From late August through early May, the team trains 3 to 4 days per week in the styles of jazz, pom, and hip hop. In addition to practices, their commitments throughout the season include:

Performing at all home men’s and women’s basketball games
Supporting other athletic programs and university events
Participating in community service initiatives
Traveling to perform at post-season athletics tournaments
Hosting clinics and fundraising events

Through dedicated fundraising and year-round preparation, The Masonettes work hard to culminate their season at the NDA National Collegiate Dance Championships. Each spring, the team travels to Daytona Beach, Florida, to compete in the highly competitive Division I Team Performance category—showcasing their talent and commitment to excellence on a national stage.

2026-2027 AUDITION INFORMATION!

Auditions for the 2026-2027 Masonettes Dance Team will be held on Saturday, May 2nd (10AM to 2PM) and Sunday, May 3rd (10AM to 3PM) at the Activities Building on the Fairfax campus of George Mason University! In order to participate in the audition process, you must be accepted to attend or already attend George Mason University.

The tryout application link, tryout details document, and required medical paperwork to participate in the tryout process can be found below. The deadline to submit your application and medical paperwork is Friday, April 17th.
