KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – The golfer with the most experience in a George Mason uniform leads the Patriots after day one of their opening tournament.
Junior
Jeff Wilson is tied for 16th after the opening round of The Invitational at the Ocean Course on Sunday. Wilson shot a 2-over 74 to pace the Patriots and is just four strokes off the lead. As a team, Mason is tied for 11th at 25-over 313.
The Patriots begin the second round of the three-day tournament at 8 a.m. on Monday.
Wilson, a native of Austin, Texas, shot even-par through his first 11 holes before a bogey and double bogey lost him three strokes. But he recovered nicely, shooting 1-under over the last five holes, including sinking a birdie on his second to last hole to climb into the top 20.
Freshman
Sam Jung made his collegiate debut and had mixed results with four birdies and seven bogeys, along with a double bogey. But he shot even-par on his back nine to finish with a 5-over 77 for a tie for 44th.

Connor Messick each shot a 9-over 81 as both players are tied for 66th after playing their first rounds in Mason uniforms. Sophomore
Florian Blatti is one stroke back in a tie for 71st after shooting a 10-over 82.
