Golf Travels to Penn State to Compete at the 49th Annual Rutherford Intercollegiate

Fairfax, Va. – The George Mason golf team will travel to State College, Pa. for its final regular season tournament, the 49th annual Rutherford Intercollegiate, April 18-19.

The 13-team field will play a two-day tournament featuring three rounds at the par 71 Penn State Blue Course. The host Nittany Lions have won 31 of the previous 48 events including nine of the last 11 dating back to 2015 with the Delaware Blue Hens snapping a string of six consecutive Penn State victories last season.

Saturday will feature 36 continuous holes with tee times off both hole No. 1 and No. 10 between 7:30 and 9:36 a.m. with Sunday's final round also featuring split tees with groups going off beginning at 8 a.m.

History at Rutherford Intercollegiate:  The Patriots have participated in the annual tournament 17 times. Mason's best finish is fifth place overall during the 2002-03 season. The George Mason golf team finished 9th at the 47th and 10th at the 46th edition of the Rutherford Intercollegiate.  

Lion Connection:  Mason Head Coach Greg Pieczynski played golf for the host Nittany Lions, where he was a captain, two-time Academic All-American. He was crowned the individual champion in the 2004 Rutherford Intercollegiate with a three-round 208 (-5).
