SCOUTING RHODE ISLAND
The Rams are coming into Fairfax having just won their first game of the season this past Thursday. They shutout the Davidson Wildcats 1-0 at home. Rhode Island's low-scoring games have been the theme of their year so far.
Rhode Island has six losses on the season, with five of those games being 1-0 games. The only multi-score loss that the Rams suffered was against Wake Forest on Sept. 7, when they lost 3-1 at home.
Similarly, of the five ties played this year, four of them were scoreless. Their only non-scoreless draw was against Le Moyne on Sept. 3, which ended 1-1.
In the A-10, Rhode Island has started their conference schedule 1-1-2. Their win came against Davidson and their only loss was against Duquesne on Sept. 21. Their two scoreless draws came against Saint Joseph's on Sept. 14 and VCU on Sept. 24.
Out of the 15 teams in the A-10 standings, the Rams are currently placed in 11
th. The Patriots, on the other hand, are in 12
th.
Only two Rams have scored goals this year. Junior midfielder Cristina Sallent scored her first goal of the season against Wake Forest as well as the game-winner against Davidson this past Thursday. Senior midfielder Tess O'Connell, the other Ram goal-scorer, recorded hers in the Le Moyne 1-1 draw.
There are only two players with assists on the season as well, and they share the team lead with one assist a piece. Sophomore forward Erin Hopewell assisted Tess O'Connell's goal against Le Moyne, while senior defender Jordyn Allen assisted Cristina Sallent's in the Davidson game.
Senior Faith Hutchins has been the primary goalkeeper for Rhode Island. The St. Kingstown, R.I., native (not to be confused with Kingston, R.I., the university's location) leads the A-10 in shutouts (5) and shutouts per game (.455).
