FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's soccer team (1-11-0, 1-3-0 A-10) lost their home match to Saint Louis (8-2-2, 3-0-1 A-10) by the score of 3-0 on Thursday night.
HOW THEY SCORED
SAINT LOUIS
5' | Hannah Larson (2), assisted by Emily Gaebe (3)
49' | Hannah Sawyer (4), unassisted
58' | Anna Lawler (1), assisted by Katie Houck (1)
The Billikens scored early in the game off a Hannah Larson goal. In the 5
th minute, Saint Louis recovered the ball from a Mason goal kick, where Emily Gaebe was able to pass the ball from the left side of the field to a running Hannah Larson on the right wing. After one dribble, Larson aimed for the bottom left corner of the goal and took a shot from about 12 yards out. Mason's goalkeeper
Ginny Fronk could not get to the ball in time, and it rolled into the back of the net.
After the early goal, the Patriot defense settled in and did not allow another goal in the half.
Much like the beginning of the game, however, Saint Louis scored within the first five minutes of the half. The Patriots could not cleanly clear the Billiken offensive attack, so after the ball bounced around the penalty box, Hannah Sawyer collected the ball on the 18-yard box and took a shot after settling the ball in front of her. From the left corner of the box, Sawyer's right-footed kick zipped just under the crossbar and over the outstretched arms of the jumping
Ginny Fronk to give Saint Louis a 2-0 lead.
The third goal of the evening came in the 58th minute off a Saint Louis free kick. Katie Houck's cross from the right side of the field soared past Mason's back post, where Anna Lawler ran in to head the ball in strike in order to redirect it back on goal. Her successful header gave the Billikens their third goal of the night as well as Lawler's first of the season.
