FAIRFAX, Va. – A quartet of George Mason men's and women's track and field student-athletes earned weekly honors from the Atlantic 10 on Tuesday.
Graduate student
Trent Lancaster was named A-10 Men's Track Performer honors while sophomore
Jaylen Simmons earned A-10 Field Performer accolades. On the women's side, junior
Khalilah Hamer was tabbed the A-10 Women's Track Performer and
Hannah Rosenfeld was named the Rookie of the Week.
Lancaster finished second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Dan Stimson Memorial on Saturday at William & Mary. The graduate student from Sterling, Va., posted the fastest time - 9:17.92 - in the Atlantic 10 this season and ninth-fastest in the East Region. The time also qualified him for the IC4A Championships.
Simmons placed second in the shot put to earn Field Performer of the Week honors for the second straight week. Simmons posted the second-best mark all-time in program history with a heave of 17.07 meters. His throw is the second-longest in the Atlantic 10 this year and ranks 26th in the East Region. The sophomore from Waynesboro, Va., also finished 10th in the discus (46.67 meters) and 12th in the hammer throw (43.70).
Hamer, a native of Woodbridge, Va., finished first in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Hamer's time of 10:53.31 ranks first in the Atlantic 10 this season and fifth in the East Region.
Rosenfeld placed second in the javelin Saturday. Rosenfeld, a native of Oakland, Calif., was throwing the javelin for the first time and recorded a mark of 42.48 meters, which is eighth-best all-timem and the second-best throw in the A-10 this year by just four inches.
The Patriots split up this weekend to compete in the Fred Hardy Invitational at Richmond and the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, N.C.
