FAIRFAX, Va. – Following standout performances at the Raleigh Relays, three Patriots have been recognized with Atlantic 10 Outdoor Performer of the Week honors.
Senior Walt Bannerman was named A-10 Men's Field Performer of the Week after a strong performance in the pole vault invitational. Bannerman cleared a season-best height of 5.27m to finish third against a competitive field. His mark continues to lead the A-10 this season, while ranking 17th in NCAA Division I and seventh in the East Region.
Senior Ella Semple was named A-10 Women's Track Performer of the Week for the second consecutive week. Semple delivered a historic performance in the women's 5000m, breaking the George Mason outdoor school record with a time of 15:58.44—becoming the first runner in program history to dip under the 16-minute mark. Competing in a field of over 200 elite athletes, she placed 17th overall. Her time leads the A-10 this season and ranks 12th in NCAA Division I, further cementing her status as one of the nation's top distance runners.
Senior Abby Weening earned A-10 Women's Field Performer of the Week honors following an impressive showing in the high jump. Weening cleared 1.72m in her outdoor season debut, setting a new personal best. Her mark ranks first in the A-10 and 41st nationally. With the performance, she moves into a tie for seventh on George Mason's all-time list.
The Patriots will look to build on their early-season success as the outdoor campaign continues next weekend at home. The George Mason track & field teams are set to host the Dalton Ebanks Invitational at the George Mason Stadium from Friday, April 3 to Saturday, April 4.
