WESTON, Fla. – George Mason's
Sam Jung picked up right where he left off in the fall.
The freshman won all three of his matches during Atlantic 10 Conference Match Play on Monday and Tuesday at Weston Hills Country Club to begin the spring season. As a team, Mason finished eighth, dropping all three matches against Oakland, Dayton and Saint Joseph's.
Jung, a native of nearby Centreville, Va., continued to have a strong rookie season after he posted two top-10 finishes in the fall. On Monday, he defeated Oakland's Chris Handy 2&1 in the first matchup of the day. He then finished 1-up against Dayton's Domenic Maricocchi later in the afternoon. On Tuesday, he won 2-up against Wills Montgomery from Saint Joseph's.
Freshmen

Connor Messick.Â
The Patriots played Oakland even in their opening match on Monday, with each team winning three matches. Due to a tie, the result was decided via a scorecard tiebreaker, which Oakland won.Â
That put Mason in a consolation matchup against Dayton as the Flyers won 4.5 to 1.5. In the seventh-place matchup on Tuesday, St. Joe's defeated the Patriots 4-2 with Jung and Miller each winning.
Mason returns to stroke play with the Fort Lauderdale Intercollegiate on March 3-5 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.Â
