Seattle, Wa. -- The George Mason golf team is in third place heading into the final round at the 12th annual Redhawk Invitational on the famed Chambers Bay Golf Course.
Sophomore Vaughn McMeans led the Patriots with a six-under-par 66, including a 29 on the back nine. The score ties his best in his young collegiate career, having carded a 66 at the National Golf Invitational in Arizona last May 2025.
The Leesburg, native scored an eagle on the par 5, Hole #1 and had seven birdies on the day with 6 on the back nine. He is four-under-par heading into the final round on Tuesday.
Vijay Powell scored a 68 today in the second round after a one-over-par 73 in the opening round. Freshman Philip Krone scored a 73 in the opening round, followed by a 70 in the second.
History at the Redhawk Invitational: The George Mason golf team finished with a fourth-place showing at last year's Redhawk Invitational, besting its fifth-place finish in 2024. Vaughn McMeans earned runner-up honors at the 2025 Seattle Redhawk Invitational. McMeans displayed consistency throughout the tournament with only five of the 54 holes scored above par. The Leesburg, Va. native tallied 10 birdies and an notched an eagle on the par-5, 541-yard 18th hole.
