HOWEY-IN-THE HILLS, Fla. – A pair of seniors pace the George Mason men's golf team as it wraps up its spring break week in the Sunshine State.
Ellis Messian is tied for 24th and
Eric Edwards is a stroke behind in a tie for 29th after the first day of the Mission Inn Spring Spectacular, hosted by the Patriots at the Mission Inn Resort & Club. The Patriots sit in ninth at 35-over 611 (312-299), one stroke behind Bethune-Cookman. No. 27 TCU leads the tournament with a 9-over 585 (304-281).
???????Messian, a San Diego native who finished 13th at the USF Invitational earlier this week, shot a 7-over 151 (75-76). Edwards, a Salisbury, N.C. product, shot an 8-over 152 (77-75).
Sophomore
Jeff Wilson tied for 47th with 13-over 157 (82-75). Sophomore
Davis Soderberg (78-81) and senior
Brock Kovach (83-73) rounded out Mason's top five by tying for 54th at 15-over 159. Kovach's 1-over 73 on round two was the best round of the day by a Patriot.
Mason also had four individuals competing. Senior
Trevor Tremps shot a 24-over 168 (80-88) and sophomore Takahiro Nohima was 30-over 174 (87-87). Senior
Wonsuk Rhee (91-85) and freshman
Florian Blatti (94-82) both shot a 32-over 176.
The third and final round will begin at 8:15 a.m. on Sunday.
