FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason men's golf team's season-opening golf tournament has been cancelled.

The Patriots were scheduled to play in The Invitational at the Ocean Course in Kiawah Island, South Carolina, on Monday and Tuesday but the tournament has been cancelled due to potential storms from Hurricane Irma. A makeup date has not been announced.

The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island Golf Resort in Kiawah Island, South Carolina, has hosted several prestigious tournaments in the past, including the 1991 Ryder Cup and 2012 PGA Championship.

Mason now opens its season with its home tournament, the Patriot Intercollegiate, on Sept. 25-26 at the Chantilly National Golf and Country Club in nearby Chantilly.
