Final Results
LEESBURG, Va. – A pair of upperclassmen and Atlantic 10 All-Conference selections paved the way for the George Mason men's and women's cross country teams at their home meet.
Junior
Ciara Donohue led the women with a second-place finish and senior
Logan Miller paced the men with a fifth-place finish at the Mason Invitational on Saturday morning at Oatlands Plantation. In the team results, both the Patriot men and women's teams finished third.
The meet featured eight teams on the women's side and 10 for the men. It also served as a primer for the Atlantic 10 Championships, which will be hosted by Mason on Oct. 28 at Oatlands Plantation. A-10 foes St. Joseph's and Duquesne finished first and second in both the men's and women's team results. George Washington also competed in the men's and women's races and Davidson brought its men's team.
For the women, Mason finished with 54 points, just nine behind second-place Duquesne (45) and 10 back from champ Saint Joseph's (44). Donohue led the way for the Patriots by taking second in 22:15 on the 6K course for a 5:56 mile average.
Senior
Amber Hawkins, who was one spot out from earning all-conference honors last year, placed seventh in 22:43. Junior
Carolyn Conley was 11 th in 23:08. Freshman
Riley Freeland finished 14 th in 23:18 and sophomore
Sarah Richart rounded out the top five in 23:42.
The Mason men scored 79 points for third place. Saint Joseph's ran away with the team championship scoring a 34 thanks to five runners finishing in the top 11. Duquesne placed second with 66 points.
Miller was the first Patriot across the line in fifth with a time of 25:44 on the 8K course, running an average mile time of 5:11. Juniors
Grayson Morgan (26:12) and
Trent Lancaster (26:15) placed 12th and 13th, respectively. Juniors
Paul Adam (26:35) and
Jonathan Schloth (26:38) rounded out the team's top five by finishing 24th and 25th, respectively.
The Patriots have next weekend off before returning to action at the Princeton Invitational on Oct. 14 in Princeton, New Jersey.
