BRONX, N.Y. – The George Mason men's and women's cross country teams wrapped up the season after competing in the IC4A/ECAC Championships at Van Cortlandt Park today. The men finished sixth overall and the women finished seventh overall in the championship division races.
Reigning ECAC Champion, Bethany Sachtleben led the way for the women after finishing 10th overall with a time of 18:04.5 in a 5k. Sachtleben was awarded a medal for her performance today. Freshman Bailey Kolonich crossed the line second for Mason with a time of 18:47.3 to place 34th overall. Shortly after Kolonich, Heather Selheimer finished in 42nd place with a time of 19:04.5. Following Selheimer, Academic All-Conference honoree, Jennifer Nakamura crossed the line with a time of 19:17.4 to finish 51st overall. Lauren Givens rounded out the top five finishers for the Patriots with a time of 19:46.8 to finish 65th overall.
Fifth-year senior Michael Conway placed first for Mason in the 8k championship race, finishing fourth overall with a time of 25:16.2. Conway was awarded a medal for his efforts in the race today. Steven Flynn crossed the line next for the Patriots with a time of 25:53.5 to place 28th overall. Stuart Lampen Crowell followed Flynn to finish 30th overall with a time of 26:00.6. James Luehrs (26:06.9) and Brent Coulter (26:23.4) rounded out the top five for the Green and Gold to finish 34th and 45th overall, respectively. Director of T&F and XC Andrew Gerard was happy with the performance from both teams today.
"Both teams did a very solid job today and it was a fitting conclusion to the season. The men ran with more passion and energy than at the regional and did a very nice job against a number of teams who had beaten us earlier in the year. The women rallied well after regionals as well and had perhaps their best team performance of the championship season,” said Gerard. “I'd also extend a special recognition to seniors Bethany Sachtleben and Michael Conway, both of whom medaled for Mason in their last cross country races in the Green and Gold!”
