Patriots Begin A-10 Action With Road Match at Fordham

BRONX, N.Y. – The George Mason women's soccer team (0-8-0) will begin Atlantic 10 Conference play this week, as they will travel to the Bronx and face off against Fordham (2-4-1) at Moglia Stadium at Jack Coffey Field on Thursday, Sept. 14, at 7 p.m. This will also be Fordham's first conference game of the season.

LAST TIME OUT
Last Sunday, the Patriots hosted Iowa for the first time. In Mason's last non-conference game of the regular season, the Hawkeyes defeated the Patriots by the score of 3-0.

Freshman goalkeeper Ginny Fronk recorded six saves on the afternoon, bringing her season total to 54 saves. She continues to lead the Atlantic 10 Conference in total saves and saves per game, which is now at 6.75.
SCOUTING FORDHAM
The Rams went 2-4-1 in their non-conference schedule, starting the season with a loss at Drexel on Aug. 17 and picking up back-to-back shutout wins against Wagner and Stonehill on Aug. 20 and 24. They tied their subsequent match against Stony Brook with a 2-2 draw. They are currently on a three-game losing skid, having dropped games against Fairfield, Columbia and UAlbany.
Graduate student forward Caroline Monahan leads the team in goals scored with three. She scored two goals in their 4-0 win over Wagner and tallied another in their 2-2 draw against Stony Brook. Monahan's offensive presence is felt in opponents' defending thirds, as she is 6th in the A-10 in shots (19) and 9th in shots on goal (10).

Freshman forward Riley Carroll has the second-most goals scored on the team with two. The Glastonbury, Conn., native also recorded her goals during the Wagner and Stony Brook games.

Four other Rams have one goal this season, all of whom are forwards. They are Lena Johnsen, Cambrie Arboreen, Cianna Elmazaj and Kaitlyn Murphy. Johnsen and Murphy, though forwards, are also listed as midfielders as well.

Freshman midfielder/forward Sari Frankl leads the team with two assists. She recorded both assists in the Wagner game. Five other Rams have recorded an assist on the season. They are Carroll Riley, Lena Johnsen, Carmen Hardwick, Serena Mensah and Fernanda Serna.

Sophomore Kyla King has seen the most action in goal for Fordham. The Hamden, Conn., native has recorded two shutouts and has made 17 saves.
HISTORY WITH THE RAMS 
Mason has matched up with Fordham nine times, with the all-time series knotted at 3-3-3. The two teams met for the first time on October 13, 2013, where the Patriots won 3-0. Fordham has won the last three meetings against the Patriots, with their first win of the series coming on Oct. 3, 2019, when the Rams won 2-1 in overtime in New York. They then beat the Patriots on Oct. 24, 2021 with a 2-0 game, also in New York.. The last time they met was last season on Sept. 25, 2022, when the Rams won 2-1 in Fairfax.

The last time Mason defeated Fordham was in the 2016 A-10 Quarterfinals on Nov. 3, 2016. The Patriots scored a goal in overtime to edge out the Rams 2-1.
UP NEXT
The Patriots will return to Fairfax and host their first A-10 game of the season this Sunday, Sept. 17, where they will face Virginia Commonwealth. Sunday's game will also feature Pups on the Pitch, where fans will be able to receive a free dog toy. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. and can be watched on ESPN+.
