William & Mary Triangular Results
The George Mason men's and women's track and field teams opened up the outdoor season with strong performances over the weekend at two meets.
The Patriots split up Friday and Saturday and competed at the Hurricane Invitational in Miami and the William & Mary Triangular in Williamsburg.
Senior
Rico Gomez finished fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 47.87. In the 110-meter hurdles, junior
Kornelius Klah placed second with a wind-aided time of 14.27 and sophomore
Nick Corbin took seventh in 14.60. Klah also snagged a second-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles in 52.85. Sophomore
Cameron Faint was 10th with a time of 54.95.
The 4x100-meter relay team of
Jordan Turner,
Junias Agyei,
Tyler Benson and Gomez posted the top time of any collegiate squad in 40.81, edging out Michigan (41.26). Mason finished second overall, behind a contingent from the Dominican Republic.
In the shot put, sophomores
Jaylen Simmons (16.17 meters) and
Benjamin Viau (15.67) took fifth and sixth, respectively. In the discus, sophomore
Connor Steggerda (49.91) placed sixth, Simmons (49.46) took seventh and Viau (48.73) finished ninth. In the hammer throw, Simmons (46.42 meters), Viau (45.55) and sophomore
Avory Ransome (44.89) placed seventh, eighth and 10th, respectively.
On the women's side, junior
Taylor Williams (11.88) and senior
Sarah Moore (12.02) took fifth and seventh in the 100-meter dash. Moore also placed eighth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.00. Freshman
Kelly-Ann Downer (24.58) was 10th and Williams (24.66) was right behind in 11th. Junior
Ashley Lewis (56.04) and Downer (56.10) were fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 400-meter dash.
Sophomore
Davina Lane took second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.38 and fourth in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:01.63.
The 4x100-meter relay team of
Kiana Stallworth, Williams, Downer and Moore finished fourth in 45.64. Stallworth also took sixth in the long jump with a leap of 5.73 meters. In the javelin, senior
Isabel Guide placed sixth with a toss of 36.99 meters.
Mason also competed at the William & Mary Triangular, which was not scored for team results and featured Mason, Virginia and William & Mary. In the 1,500-meter run, freshman
Annabelle Eastman placed first with a time of 4:39.86 while senior
Ciara Donohue finished third in 4:43.83.
Junior
Danielle Maynard had a solid day, finishing second in the 100-meter dash (12.90) and third in the 100-meter hurdles (15.30). Freshman
Grace Brown took second in the 400-meter dash in 1:02.42.
Junior
Jazmin Golden won the 400-meter hurdles in 1:07.73 and sophomore
Riley Freeland took second in the 2,000-meter steeplechase (7:39.72).
In the shot put, freshman
Casey Nelson was third with a toss of 11.62 meters. Junior
Zinnie Tabb-Reed took third in the women's hammer throw with a heave of 44.82 meters.
On the men's side, freshman Sundiata Kamau was third in the 100-meter dash in 11.04. He also qualified for the IC4A Championships in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.19.
In the 400-meter dash, sophomores Jacob Wiegel (50.11) and
Cason Gardner (50.70) went one-two, respectively. In the 800-meter run, sophomores
Colin Cannon (1:56.55) and
Jake Lonsdale (1:57.04) also took the top two places.
The Patriots cleaned house in the 5,000-meter run. Graduate student
Trent Lancaster (14:39.96), junior
Thomas Amabile (14:50.18), senior
Luke Sharkey (14:51.18) and junior
Ethan Newland (14:52.45) finished first through fourth, respectively. Lancaster's time also qualified him for the IC4A Championships. Freshman
William Zach also took second in the 400-meter hurdles in 58.14.
In the field events, freshman
Vladislav Cullinane placed second in the high jump, clearing 1.95 meters. In the long jump, sophomore
Aaron Watson placed second with a leap of 6.33 meters. In the hammer throw, senior William Sarraf placed third with a mark of 40.84 meters.
The Patriots return to action next weekend, heading back to William & Mary for the Stimson Memorial on Saturday in Williamsburg.
