SERIES HISTORY
The teams have met just twice before, with Mason holding a 1-0-1 advantage. They last met on Sept. 5, 2003 as the teams settled for a 1-1 tie in Fairfax.Â
Â
LAST TIME OUT
The Patriots registered their first shutout of the season with a 2-0 victory over Longwood on Wednesday night at George Mason Stadium. A stalemate for nearly 80 minutes, Mason struck twice in 30 seconds, with junior
Tunde Akinlosotu involved in both goals. The junior forward scored on a breakaway in the 80th minute and then dished out a nifty back-footed assist to sophomore
Colin Brezniak half-a-minute later. Senior
Clark Gronek, making his third consecutive start, earned his first career shutout, making two saves.Â
GLIMPSE AT THE PATRIOTS
Mason returns 21 letterwinners and seven starters from last year's team that went 5-9-2. Junior midfielderÂ
Ryan Mingachos leads the way as the team's top returning scorer as he logged a career-high six goals and three assists for 15 points in 2017. The Patriots add 12 newcomers, including seven transfers and five freshmen. The group features forwardÂ
Colin Brezniak, who scored three goals and made nine starts at Pittsburgh last fall, and a pair of transfers from Virginia Tech in forwardÂ
Gregor von Westphalen and midfielderÂ
Daniel Damiani. Mason also brings in defender Pablo Pertusa, who was a junior college All-American at Monroe College in New York last season.
Â
NEXT UP
The Patriots wrap up a three-game homestand with their Atlantic 10 opener against Revolutionary Rival George Washington at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at George Mason Stadium.Â
