FAIRFAX, Va. –
Sam Jung's collegiate career is off to a strong start and others are taking notice.
The George Mason freshman was named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week on Friday. The honor comes after Jung finished second at the Patriot Intercollegiate last weekend at Laurel Hill Golf Club in Lorton, Va.
Jung, who has posted top 10 finishes in each of his first two collegiate golf tournaments, is the first Patriot to be named A-10 Rookie of the Week since Mason joined the league in 2013.
The Centreville, Va., native, shot a 3-under 139 (69-70) to help the Mason win its first team title since 2017. He recorded seven birdies as he finished just one stroke off the lead.Â
In four total rounds this season, Jung has shot par or better three times, including two scores of 69. He tied for 10th at The Invitational at The Ocean Course earlier in the month at Kiawah Island, S.C., which, like the Patriot Intercollegiate, was shortened to 36 holes due to inclement weather.Â
Mason returns to action next weekend with the Wolfpack Intercollegiate on Oct. 6-7 at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course in Raleigh, N.C. Â
