FAIRFAX – The George Mason men's golf team has been selected to finish fourth in the Atlantic 10 Men's Golf Preseason Poll, as announced by the conference office. The Patriots garnered 93 total points and received one first-place vote in the poll of league coaches.
George Mason enters the 2026 spring season with strong momentum and a roster poised to contend among the conference's top tier. The Patriots' fourth-place selection reflects both the program's recent progress and growing expectations as they prepare for postseason competition.
The Patriots are led by
Vaughn McMeans, who is coming off one of the best fall seasons in the history of the program. The sophomore earned two medalist honors, winning the West Bay College Invitational and the Nemacolin Collegiate Invitational. In addition, McMeans finished top 5 in Navy's The Goat golf tournament.
The two wins in a single season have only been achieved three times in Mason history. Craig Mason won two tournaments in back-to-back seasons (2000-01, 2001-02), while Mike Kirby did it during the 2005-06 season.
VCU was tabbed as the preseason favorite with 133 points and three first-place votes, followed closely by Richmond (130 points) and Rhode Island (125 points).
Rounding out the poll behind George Mason are Dayton (89), George Washington (77), Loyola Chicago (74), Davidson (69), La Salle (52), Saint Joseph's (42), Fordham (26), and St. Bonaventure (26).
The Atlantic 10 Men's Golf Championship is scheduled for April 27-29 at Evermore Orlando Resort, where the Patriots will look for its first A-10 conference title.
