FAIRFAX, Va. – For the second straight year, George Mason golfer
Eric Edwards has earned national recognition for his combined prowess on the course and in the classroom.
On Wednesday, Edwards was named a Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). The recent Mason alum also earned the honor in 2017.
A record number of student-athletes earned All-America Scholar status, including 265 in Division I. To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status, an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50 percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
Edwards, a native of Salisbury, N.C., graduated with his bachelor's degree in finance in May. Edwards finished his collegiate career as both a three-time Atlantic 10 All-Conference selection and a three-time Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team honoree.Â
He posted three top 10 finishes in 2017-18 and tied for 18th at the Atlantic 10 Championship last month. He also led the team in scoring average (74.13). For his career, he finished in the top 10 a total of 10 times and shared medalist honors at the Elon Phoenix Invitational in 2016.
The finance major, who made the A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll six times, set or tied 11 school records. That included most career birdies (312) and most par or better rounds (43). His 71.70 stroke average in 2016-17 set the program's single-season scoring record.
