TAMPA – George Mason's Ellis Messian began his spring break on a good note.

The senior golfer leads the Patriots in a tie for 12th after day one of the USF Invitational at Tampa Palms Golf and Country Club on Monday. As a team, Mason sits in eighth at 52-over 628 (307-321).

Messian shot a 7-over 151 (77-74) during the first two rounds. The San Diego native shot a 2-over 74 during the second round, sinking four birdies.

Senior Eric Edwards is tied for 30th after shooting a 13-over 157 (77-80). Sophomore Jeff Wilson (76-84) and senior Brock Kovach (77-83) are tied for 42nd with 16-over 160. Sophomore Takahiro Nojima is in 63rd after shooting a 35-over 179 (88-91). Senior Trevor Tremps, competing as an individual, shot a 34-over 178 (88-90) to sit in 62nd place.

The Patriots will conclude the two day-tournament with the third and final round, with a shotgun start beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
