Final Results
KINGSTON, R.I. – It was a record-setting day for several George Mason men's track and field distance runners.
The Patriots set three Atlantic 10 Championship records in distance events at the second and final day of the A-10 Indoor Track & Field Championships on Sunday at the University of Rhode Island.
Junior
Blaine Lacey (800 meters), senior
Nathan Schulte (1,000 meters) and the 4x800-meter relay team all set Atlantic 10 records while also winning gold. In the team results, the Mason men and women both finished second.
Lacey was the first domino in the record-falling trifecta. He finished first with a time of 1:50.95 to set both the A-10 Championship record and the facility record at Mackal Field House. Schulte then followed suit by winning the 1,000 meters with an A-10 Championship record time of 2:25.24.
The 4x800-meter relay team of
Logan Miller,
Cameron Steven, Schulte and Lacey also broke the A-10 Championship and facility records with a time of 7:36.40, winning by more than four seconds.
Also winning gold for the men were sprinters
Rico Gomez, who defended his title in the 400-meter dash with a time of 48:58, and
Tyler Benson in the 500-meter dash with a time of 1:03.88.
On the women's side, sophomore
Ashley Lewis won gold in the 800-meter dash with a time of 2:09.27. Freshman
GJaudy John-Wallace was named the Most Outstanding Female Rookie of the meet. The sprinter from Uxbridge, Ontario, placed second in the 60-meter dash (7.61) and fourth in the 200-meter dash (24.92).
The Mason men, the defending A-10 indoor champs, finished second with 141.5 points as host Rhode Island (204) ran its fourth title in the last five years. On the women's side, the Patriots were in second with 102.5 points as VCU (122.5) captured its third crown in five years.
Several Patriots will be back in action next weekend with the Mason Last Chance Meet on Sunday at the Field House.
