PALM CITY, Fla. – A pair of George Mason sophomore golfers had strong performances on day two of the first tournament of the spring season.
Davis Soderberg and
Jeff Wilson led the Patriots during the second round of the UNCG/Martin Downs Collegiate on Monday at the Martin Downs Golf Club. Soderberg shot a 1-over 73 and Wilson carded a 2-over 74 as both players recorded five birdies.
Senior
Ellis Messian, who also shot a 2-over on Monday, paves the way for Mason after two rounds. The San Diego native is in a tie for 32nd at 4-over 148 (74-74). Wilson, a sophomore from Austin, Texas, sits two strokes back at 6-over 150 (76-74) in a tie for 37th.
Senior
Eric Edwards, a native of Salisbury, N.C., shot 4-over 76 for the second straight day and is tied for 45th at 8-over 152. Soderberg (+1), a sophomore from Charlottesville, Va., and
Takahiro Nojima (+7), a sophomore from Tokyo, recorded their first scores of the tournament after scorecard disqualifications on Sunday in the first round. The Patriots cannot score as a team for the tournament due to the disqualifications. Four individual scores are required to score as a team.
Mason closes out the three-round, three-day tournament on Tuesday, with tee times beginning at 7:30 a.m.
