PALM CITY, Fla. – Senior
Ellis Messian opened up the spring season with a strong first round to lead the George Mason men's golf team.
Messian is tied for 23rd after the first round of the UNCG/Martin Downs Collegiate at the Martin Downs Golf Club on Sunday. It marks the first tournament since the Patriots wrapped up their fall season in October.
Messian, a native of San Diego, carded five birdies to shoot a 2-over 74. Senior
Eric Edwards and sophomore
Jeff Wilson are both two shots behind at 4-over 76 in a tie for 34th. The Patriots did not qualify for a team score as sophomores
Takahiro Nojima and
Davis Soderberg were both disqualified for the round due to incorrect scorecards.
The three-round, three day tournament continues with the second round on Monday as the Patriots begin teeing off at 7:30 a.m.
