FAIRFAX, Va. – A two-goal effort from captain
Ryan Mingachos last week assured George Mason it would be hosting its Atlantic 10 quarterfinal matchup.
On Monday, Mingachos was rewarded for his impressive performance, being named the A-10 Co-Offensive Player of the Week. It marks the second time in his career he has earned the honor. The award only included games through the end of the regular season, not the quarterfinal matchups played on Sunday.
The junior from Danbury, Conn., scored two goals in a 2-0 victory over Rhode Island on Wednesday night to close out the regular season in Fairfax. It was the third multi-goal game of his career.
The midfielder scored on a 30-yard shot into the left corner in the 55th minute and then added an insurance goal in the 67th minute from six yards away. He is tied for the team lead in assists (four), is second in points (12) and tied for second in goals scored (four).
Mingachos and the third-seeded Patriots (8-7) are back in action with the semifinals of the A-10 Championship on Friday. They'll play No. 7 seed Dayton at 4:30 p.m. in St. Louis. The winner advances to the championship game on Sunday.
