FAIRFAX, Va. – One of the first players in program history. Two midfielders who shared the field and helped the Patriots win a conference championship and qualify for two NCAA Tournaments.
This hall of fame trio no doubt left their mark on the George Mason men's soccer program.Â
Raul Ricaurte, Jonathan Borrajo and Dr. Richard Edgar will be inducted into the George Mason Men's Soccer Hall of Fame on Oct. 13. The 2018 class will be honored at halftime of the Patriots' matchup against Duquesne at 7 p.m. at George Mason Stadium.
Ricaurte was a member of the Mason's first men's soccer team in 1968 and a three-year captain. Borrajo and Edgar overlapped as teammates in the late 2000s, helping the Patriots win the 2008 Colonial Athletic Association tournament championship and advance to the NCAA Tournament in 2006 and 2008.Â
"We are thrilled to add three incredibly great representatives of George Mason and our soccer program to the Men's Soccer Hall of Fame," head coach
Greg Andrulis said. "Each individual is very unique and has blazed a unique path of success. All three were great contributors as leaders and players while playing at George Mason and each has continued to make valuable contributions in their communities. If there is one commonality it's that each player was universally praised by their peers during the selection process."
An induction ceremony luncheon will be held at Brion's Grille at 3 p.m. on Oct. 13. Cost is $25 per person. Please RSVP to assistant coach

All three inductees will then be honored at halftime of the game against Duquesne that night, with a postgame reception to follow at Brion's Grille.Â
Ricaurte was four-year member and three-year captain George Mason from 1968-71. Ricaurte scored 48 goals at Mason and set the then-single-season scoring record with 19. The striker also was a three-time All-State Virginia Intercollegiate League honoree. He graduated in 1972 with a degree in economics.
He stayed active in the soccer community as a player, coach and referee. He was communications and information technology professional, working internationally and locally before retiring in 2012. He currently resides in Fairfax Station with his wife, Claire, and has two daughters, Kristen and Gabriela, and two grandchildren.
Borrajo, a native of Clifton, N.J., played at George Mason from 2005-09, serving as a three-year captain. He was an All-CAA and CAA All-Tournament selection in 2008, helping the Patriots win the conference tournament title that year. Mason advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament before falling to eventual national champ Maryland.Â
He also was twice named the team's defensive player of the year and was named team MVP in 2007. He graduated with a degree in accounting and finance in 2009 and then signed his first professional contract with Real Maryland Monarchs in the USL Second Division later that year. He currently plays for the New York Cosmos B in the National Premier Soccer League and is also a co-founder of Soccer Shape, a soccer-inspired adult and fitness class in Miami and New York.
Edgar, a native of Mechanicsville, Md., was a CoSIDA Academic All-American and three-time All-CAA honoree. He started every match for George Mason from 2006-09 and, like Borroja, helped lead the Patriots to the NCAA Tournament twice. He was named to the CAA All-Rookie Team in 2006, tabbed to the All-CAA Third Team in 2007 and made the All-CAA Second Team in each of his last two seasons. He also was named to the 2008 CAA All-Tournament team for his role in helping the Patriots capture their first conference championship since 1989.Â
He was named to the adidas D.C. College Cup All-Tournament Team in 2007. He picked up second team NSCAA All-South Atlantic Region honors and was a 2008 NSCAA/Adidas College Scholar All-East Region Team selection as a senior. He was selected as a nominee for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award, finished with a 3.97 GPA and won the CAA Scholar-Athlete Award for men's soccer in both 2008 and 2009. Edgar also earned ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team and All-District accolades in 2009.Â
Edgar graduated from Mason with his degree in psychology. He received his M.D. from the University of Maryland this past May and is currently completing a family medicine residency at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. He wants to complete a sports medicine fellowship after residency with ambitions to one day be the team doctor for the USA Men's Soccer National Team.He is married to former Mason women's soccer player Nilani Duarte (2005-08).Â
