POWELLS POINT, N.C. – The best round of Jeff Wilson's collegiate career has him in prime position for his best finish at George Mason.

The junior shot a 4-under 67 on Monday, making seven birdies to move up the leaderboard and into a tie for third place after two rounds at the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate. Wilson tees off for the third and final round at 8:36 a.m. on Tuesday at the Kilmarlic Golf Club.  

As a team, the Patriots are in eighth place at 21-over 589 (302-287), just one stroke behind Delaware and only two back from Winthrop.

Wilson, a native of Austin, Texas, is looking to finish in the top 10 for the first time in his career. He has twice tied for 15th, most recently two weeks ago at the Wolfpack Collegiate.

He has shot par or better in six consecutive rounds but Monday was by far his best. He started the day tied for sixth after shooting even-par on Sunday. He birdied two of his first three holes on Monday and then shook off a double bogey on the sixth hole.

He made five birdies and shot 3-under par over the last 11 holes. He closed out his day with a birdie on the par-five 18th hole to secure just the second sub-70 round of his career.

Freshman JP Miller is tied for 40th at 7-over 149 (75-74). Fellow freshman William Christian is right behind him at 8-over 150 (77-73) in a tie for 43rd. Junior Takahiro Nojima is tied for 58th at 11-over 153 (79-74). Freshman Sam Jung bounced back from a rough opening day to shoot just 2-over par and is in 88th for the tournament at 22-over 164 (91-73).
