FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason men's and women's track and field teams were represented with repeat honor and a first for a newcomer when the Atlantic 10 Conference announced their weekly awards Tuesday.
Junior sprinter
Rico Gomez was named A-10 Men's Track Performer of the Week for the second consecutive week. On the women's side, freshman pole vaulter
Autumn White was named the A-10 Rookie of the Week for the first time of her career.
Gomez finished first in the 500-meter dash at the Keydet Invitational at VMI over the weekend. The junior from Upper Marlboro, Md., ran a time of 1:03.96, the fastest in the Atlantic 10 this season, for his third victory in three weeks (in three different events). The reigning A-10 Men's Track Performer of the Week also took ninth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.69.Â
White finished second in the pole vault at the Keydet Invitational at VMI over the weekend for her best performance of her young career. The freshman from Forest, Va., cleared 3.60 meters (11 feet, 9 3/4 inches) to finish behind only teammate
Shelby Garnand. White's jump was the third-highest in the Atlantic 10 this season.Â
The Patriots return to action on Friday and Saturday with the Patriot Games at the Field House.
