FAIRFAX, Va. – On Tuesday, George Mason golfer
Eric Edwards started his senior season with his eighth career top 10 finish.
On Friday, he was rewarded by being named the Atlantic 10 Conference Golfer of the Week for the third time in his career. Edwards tied for sixth at the Patriot Intercollegiate, hosted by Mason at the Chantilly National Golf and Country Club in Centreville.
The Salisbury, N.C., native shot a 1-over 217 (71-72-74) in his first tournament of the year. He opened up the tournament with a 1-under 71 in the first round. As a team, the Patriots finished seventh at the tournament.
Edwards is a two-time Atlantic 10 All-Conference selection and is coming off a season in he set the single-season scoring record with a 71.70 stroke average. He also finished in the top 10 four times during the 2016-17 campaign and recorded his first collegiate victory when he shared medalist honors at the Elon Phoenix Invitational last October.
Edwards and the Patriots hit the road for the Firestone Invitational on Monday and Tuesday at the prestigious Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio, which hosts the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational every August.
