FAIRFAX, Va. – Corey Chambers capped off his first collegiate weekend with not one, but two honors.

On Monday, George Mason's freshman goalkeeper was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie and Defensive Player of the Week. Chambers made eight saves, posted a shutout and dished out his first career assist in a pair of wins over No. 19 Coastal Carolina on Friday and American on Sunday.

The 6-foot-2, 200-pounder from Wexford, Ireland, made his collegiate debut on Friday night, marking the first time a Mason freshman goalkeeper started his first collegiate game since Steffen Kraus in 2013.

In a 2-1 win victory over Coastal Carolina, Chambers played the entire game, making four saves as the Chanticleers fired off 20 shots. He also notched the rare goalkeeper assist, booting a kick more than 50 yards to teammate Henning Dirks, who finished with the game-winning goal in the 60th minute.

Against American on Sunday night, he once again made four saves as he recorded his first career shutout in a 3-0 victory. The Eagles attempted 14 shots, including 13 in the first half. With the Patriots holding a two-goal lead late in the first half, Chambers made several acrobatic stops, including a spectacular diving play to his left to swat away a header by American's Trey Echazarreta.

Through two games, he has registered a .889 save percentage and an impressive 0.50 goals against average. The freshman arrived at Mason with a resume that includes international experience. Chambers has made 16 appearances for the Irish national teams in the U-15 to U-18 circuit. He also played for the Canadian U-17 men's soccer team as he possesses dual citizenship between Ireland and Canada.

The Patriots return to action against Albany at 7 p.m. on Friday in Albany, N.Y. They wrap up the two-game trip in New York with a visit to Siena at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
