FAIRFAX, Va. – On the heels of the conclusion of his collegiate career, George Mason's
Henning Dirks has been recognized for his superb senior season.
Dirks was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference Second Team on Wednesday in a vote of the league's coaches. It marked the second time in his career the forward from Münster, Germany, has received such honors as he was also named to the second team in 2015.
"Henning had a terrific season and was one of our key attacking players," Mason head coach
Greg Andrulis said. "His month of September was incredible, unfortunately he was held back in the second half of the season with a knee issue that kept him from being at 100 percent. He has a bright future ahead of him."
This past fall, Dirks tied for the most points in the A-10 with 27. The team captain also tied for second with 10 goals and his seven assists were tied for third-most in the league.
He opened the season by scoring eight goals in his first nine games. At one point, he led the country in points per game with 2.57 through seven games. He notched a point in four straight games, capping it off with a career-high five-point game in a win against East Tennessee State on Sept. 20. He scored two goals against the Buccaneers, marking the third multi-goal game of his career. He also had a career-high two assists in a win against American on Aug. 27.
He recorded two game-winning goals – against No. 19 Coastal Carolina and at Longwood. His 47 shots led the team and were in the top 10 in the conference. His 10 goals were the most by a Mason player since
Timi Mulgrew (now a volunteer assistant coach for the Patriots) scored 13 in 2014.
For his career, Dirks finished with 63 points and 22 goals. His 19 assists are tied for sixth-most in program history. His 163 shots are tied for seventh-most all-time at Mason.
Dirks played in 66 games and made 58 starts, including starting all 16 this past season. In addition to twice being named to the A-10 All-Conference Second Team he was also tabbed to the A-10 All-Rookie Team as a freshman in 2014.
