FAIRFAX, Va. – After competing in her first Atlantic 10 Championship, George Mason's
Riley Freeland has been pinpointed as one of the top young runners in the conference.
The freshman was named to the Atlantic 10's All-Rookie Team on Tuesday. Freeland, a native of Seville, Ohio, placed 57th at the Atlantic 10 Championships on Saturday at Oatlands Plantation in Leesburg.
She was the fifth-fastest freshman across the line, finishing with a time of 19:21.3 on the 5K course. She was Mason's fourth runner to finish, helping the Patriots place ninth as a team – up two spots from last year.
This season, Freeland has placed in the top 15 twice, including a career-high finish of eighth at the JMU Open on Sept. 9. She was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week on Oct. 3 after placing 14th at the Mason Invitational last month.
Freeland and the Patriots are back in action on Nov. 10 at the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships at Panorama Farms in Earlysville, Va.
