FAIRFAX, Va. – On Saturday,
Riley Freeland posted the second top 15 finish of her young collegiate career. And on Tuesday, the George Mason freshman earned her first collegiate honor.
Freeland was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Women's Rookie of the Week. She placed 14th at the Mason Invitational on Saturday.
The Seville, Ohio native, ran a time of 23:17.1 on the 6K course at Oatlands Plantation in Leesburg. She was the first Mason freshman across the line and second freshman finisher overall behind only individual champ Martha Bissah from Norfolk State.
Freeland helped the Patriots finish third as a team, just nine points behind A-10 rival Duquesne and only 10 back from fellow conference foe and team champ Saint Joseph's. It was the second top 15 finish in as many races for Freeland, who placed eighth at the JMU Invitational on Sept. 9.
The Patriots return to action next week at the Princeton Invitational on Oct. 14 in New Jersey.
