Bethany Sachtleben led the way for the women after finishing 38th overall with a time of 21:11.1. Jennifer Nakamura finished second for the Patriots and 107th overall in the 6k championship race with a time of 22:19.6. The men's team came into the competition ranked ninth in the Southeast region after winning the A-10 Championship their last time out. Michael Conway placed first for Mason in the 10k championship race, finishing 23rd in a field of 231 with a time of 30:54.7. Conway also was an All-Region selection for his efforts today. Steven Flynn crossed the line next for Mason with a time of 31:49.2 to place 72nd overall. Brent Coulter followed Flynn to finish 95th overall with a time of 32:04.1. Logan Miller (32:20.4) and James Luehrs (32:36.7) rounded out the top five for the Green and Gold to finish 102nd and 120th overall, respectively. Director of T&F and XC Andrew Gerard praised Conway for his performance today.
"Both teams did a solid job today, but I think we struggled a bit getting our excitement and aggressiveness back after A10's. That's primarily an experience thing and we were young this year,” said Gerard. “A huge congratulations to Michael Conway - he moved forward nicely throughout the race and capped his career earning his first All-Region selection. He's worked very hard these last five years and truly earned it."
The Patriots are set to travel to New York to compete in the IC4A/ECAC Championships at Van Cortlandt Park on November 22.
