FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason men's and women's swimming and diving teams completed the second day of the Patriot Invitational, with both the women's and men's teams in third place after day two of the three-day event held at the Jim McKay Natatorium.
On the women's side, Towson took the lead with 592 points, followed by Florida Atlantic (586), George Mason (582), Richmond (346), American (264), Marist (111) and UNCW (52).
Graduate student
Madison Nalls took the top spot in the championship final of the 200-yard freestyle (1:49.98). In the C-Final of the event, senior
Lauren Ashton placed fifth (1:55.60).
Sophomore
Ali Tyler claimed the 100-yard backstroke (53.53), while classmate
Anka Whelan finished sixth (56.25). In the B-Final, sophomore
Shannon Judge placed sixth (57.05). In the C-Final, senior
Megan Mastropaolo finished seventh (59.47).
Graduate student
Jacquee Clabeaux won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:01.40) with sophomore
Emma DeJong right behind in second (1:02.58).
In the B-Final of the event, freshman
Anna Beth Blankenship placed first (1:04.77), with classmates
Brooke Nelson second (1:04.78) and
Ainsley Toews seventh (1:06.03). In the C-Final, sophomore
Daphne Bernal was third (1:07.21), sophomore
Emma Burke finished fourth (1:07.26) and freshman
Angelina Zeidan eighth (1:09.51).
The combination of freshman
Peyton Brehmer, Clabeaux, Judge and Tyler won the 200-yard medley relay (1:40.71). The Patriots won the 800-yard freestyle relay, with the group of senior
Leah Riley, DeJong, Tyler and Nalls touching the wall first (7:21.67).
The Patriots went two-three in the championship final of 100-yard butterfly with junior
Abigail Murtaugh second (54.89) and Tyler third (55.03). Brehmer finished eighth in the event (56.16). In the B-Final, Riley placed fourth (56.18) and Judge was eighth (57.23).  In the C-Final, Burke took the top spot (56.75) and Zeidan was fifth (57.54).
Nelson placed fifth in the championship final of the 400-yard IM (4:31.56). In the B-Final of the event, Bernal touched the wall first (4:31.61) and Mastropaolo was fifth (4:33.87).
On the men's side, Florida Atlantic continues to lead with 743 points, followed by Towson (666), George Mason (471.5), American (255.5), Marist (250) and UNCW (43).
Sophomore
Alexander Franklin won the championship final of the 100-yard backstroke (48.71), with sophomore
Joe Durocher sixth (50.07) and freshman
Tate Anderson seventh (50.09). In the B-Final, freshman
Jett Lee tied for sixth (52.04).
Franklin also made the podium with a second-place finish in the championship final of the 100-yard butterfly (48.52), while senior
Sammy Lucht finished seventh (49.74).Â
In the B-Final of the event, junior
Jackson Brookover finished third (50.69), freshman
Aoun Al-Hiari fifth (50.76), freshman
Jett Lee seventh (51.05) and senior
Josh Fletcher eighth (51.23). In the C-Final, freshman
Michael Bock placed fourth (50.95).
The team of senior
Josh Fletcher, along with sophomore
Tyler Lentine, Franklin and Lucht took third in the 200-yard medley relay (1:29.21).
Lentine placed fourth in the championship final of the 100-yard breaststroke (55.36). In the B-Final, sophomore
Zane Roberts placed first (56.54), senior
Thomas Chapman seventh (58.31) and sophomore
Nathaniel Powell eighth (58.36).
In the championship final of the 200-yard freestyle, sophomore
Anthony Nguyen just missed the podium with a fourth-place finish (1:40.55). In the B-Final of the event, freshman
Joshua Hochard placed first (1:42.47) and classmate
Danny Schwabauer was eighth (1:44.86).
In the C-Final of the event, freshman
Max Fermayer touched the wall first (1:42.45) and junior
Graham Boyle was sixth (1:46.68).
Freshman
Sam Rivas finished sixth in the B-Final of the 400-yard IM (4:09.20). In the C-Final of the event, senior
Thomas Chapman was first (4:05.31), sophomore
Nicholas Maranto placed third (4:09.23) and freshman
Jack Chapman finished fourth (4:12.26).
In the 800-yard freestyle relay, the team of Anderson, Roberts, Hochard and Nguyen placed third (6:44.13).
Junior
Ian Castegnaro placed fourth in the finals of the one-meter diving event (237.05), while classmate
Indigo Flynch finished sixth (221.80).
The final day of competition is Saturday, with the prelims scheduled for 10 a.m., diving at 12:30 p.m. and the finals are slated for 6 p.m.
