Patriots Complete Victorious Road Trip; Career Night for Hoff

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - The George Mason men's volleyball team (6-4,1-0) defeated Tusculum in straight sets (25-13, 25-22, 25-13) on Saturday inside the Wehrle Innovation Center. This was the first meeting between the two programs as the Patriots now hold a 1-0 all-time series lead over the Pioneers.

"It's always fun playing a new program," head coach Jay Hosack said. "Our guys went out, played good volleyball, and we are happy with the result."

The Patriots were in the driver's seat for the majority of this match, trailing only five times in the entirety of the match. The biggest lead for the Pioneers was a two-point advantage (twice).

Senior Sam Greenslade and reshirt junior Jack Reese combined for 14 kills (seven each), while sophomore Richie Hoff earned a career high nine service aces.

The nine service aces by Hoff puts him in sole possession of second place in Mason's all-time single game service ace record, behind only Michael Kvidahl who notched 10 in a single game (at Princeton, 3/10/12).

Hoff earned another career high in assisted blocks (4), along with six kills for 17 points in Mason's victory on Saturday.

The Patriots excelled in their first road trip of the season, playing just six sets in two games for as many wins.

The Patriots return home next weekend for a date with conference foe Harvard on Friday, Feb. 14, at 7 p.m. inside the Recreation Athletic Complex (RAC).
