FAIRFAX, Va. – Seven George Mason track and field student-athletes have been named to the Atlantic 10 Men's and Women's All-Rookie Teams.
Freshmen
Decker Barborek,
Cason Gardner and
Chase Osborne were named All-Rookie on the men's side while
Kelly-Ann Downer,
Annabelle Eastman, Síobhra O'Flaherty and
Hannah Robertson earned All-Rookie accolades for the women's team.
The All-Rookie teams comprised the top-rookie performer in each event from meets conducted from the start of the regular season through the Atlantic 10 Championships. The teams were selected based off meet results submitted through the Track & Field Results Reporting System (TFRRS).
Barborek, a Fairfax native, posted the top mark (4.60 meters) in the pole vault among A-10 freshmen.
Gardner, who was named the A-10 Men's Most Outstanding Rookie Performer, led all league rookies in the high jump (2.07 meters) and heptathlon (5,120 points). Gardner, a native of Mechanicsville, Va., took silver in both the high jump and heptathlon at the A-10 Indoor Championships this past weekend at the George Mason Field House.
Osborne had the top time in the 800-meter run (1:54.46) among A-10 rookies. The Chesapeake, Va., native also won bronze as a member of the distance medley relay team at the A-10 Championships.
On the women's side, Downer had the fastest time (55.21) in the 400 meters. The sprinter from Kingston, Jamaica, also helped the Patriots win the 4x400-meter relay at the A-10 Championships.
Eastman, a native of Melbourne, Australia, made the All-Rookie Team in the 3,000-meter run (9:39.53) and the mile (4:59.17). O'Flaherty, from Carlow, Ireland, had the fastest time (16:47.76) in the 5,000-meter run.Â
Robertson, a native of nearby Springfield, Va., had the best jump in the pole vault of any A-10 freshmen this season with a leap of 3.65 meters. She finished second at the A-10 Championships behind only teammate and sophomore
Autumn White.Â
