THE PATRIOTS' 2026 INDOOR SEASON
George Mason concluded the 2026 indoor track & field season with a strong showing at the Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships, hauling in 16 medals — seven gold, four silver and five bronze. The performance was highlighted by individual titles from Walt Bannerman (men's pole vault), Kennedy Drish (women's pole vault), Ella Semple (women's 3000m & 5000m), Jayden Smith (men's 60m hurdles), Shania Staats (women's long jump), and Kailynn Tyson (women's triple jump).

Throughout the season, the Patriots delivered standout performances while consistently rewriting the record books. A total of 42 marks found their way onto the program's all-time top-10 lists, featuring athletes who not only entered the rankings but also improved upon their own existing marks. Among those efforts were school records from Semple in the women's 5000m (16:04.84) at the BU Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener, Drish in the women's pole vault (4.34m) at the Virginia Tech Challenge, and Lloyd Sheppard-Brown in the men's 5000m (14:09.95) at the A-10 Indoor Championships.

Just this week, four Patriots were also recognized by the Atlantic 10 Conference in postseason honors. Kymara Fernandez earned A-10 All-Rookie Team honors after emerging as the top rookie performer in the women's triple jump. Drish, Semple and Smith were named to the A-10 All-Academic Teams for their combined excellence in the classroom and in competition throughout the season.

BUILDING ON LAST SEASON'S SUCCESS
After a highly successful outdoor season, George Mason heads into the new season with strong momentum. The men's team captured the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championship, dethroning four-time reigning champion Rhode Island and claiming its first A-10 outdoor title since 2019.

On the women's side, the Patriots finished second overall at the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championships, placing just behind Massachusetts, which has since departed the conference. Combined, the men's and women's teams delivered the strongest overall performance among A-10 programs, showcasing the program's depth and balance across both squads.
