HIGH POINT, N.C. — The George Mason track & field teams opened their 2026 outdoor campaign at the Bob Davidson Team Challenge, hosted by High Point, competing from Friday, March 20 through Saturday, March 21. The Patriots began the season strong with several standout performances.
Freshman Kellen La Roche highlighted the opening day of the meet with an impressive outdoor debut. On Friday, he secured the Patriots' first event win of the weekend, taking the high jump with a mark of 2.05m — ranking third in the Atlantic 10, 30th in Division I, and 20th on the NCAA East Qualifying List. La Roche continued his strong performance on day two, capturing the long jump title with a mark of 7.11m, which ranks fifth in the conference and 38th on the NCAA East Qualifying List.
Kennedy Drish continued her standout year following a dominant indoor season, where she claimed the Atlantic 10 title in the women's pole vault and broke the program's indoor record. Competing in her first outdoor meet of the season, Drish won the women's pole vault Group A with a mark of 4.33m — surpassing her previous outdoor best of 4.05m.
Her mark not only leads the Atlantic 10 this season but also set a new outdoor school record, breaking the previous mark of 4.32m set by Mandissa Marshall in 2014. Drish's performance ranks third in Division I early in the season and sits atop the NCAA East Qualifying List.
Ella Semple also continued her stellar year after capturing two individual titles at the Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships. She opened her outdoor campaign with a win in the 1500m, posting a personal-best time of 4:26.51. Her time leads the Atlantic 10 after a week of competition and ranks fifth on George Mason's all-time outdoor list. Semple's performance also sits 31dst in Division I and13th on the NCAA East Qualifying List.
George Mason continued its success in the meet's distance events with a strong showing in the men's 5000m. Robbie Jenkins captured the event title with a time of 14:46.15, marking the second win of his career. The junior's performance ranks first in the Atlantic 10 season rankings and 18th on the NCAA East Qualifying List.
Bryson Barnett followed closely behind, placing second with a time of 14:49.51. His mark ranks second in the Atlantic 10 and 23rd on the NCAA East Qualifying List. Daniel Hayes added to the Patriots' depth with a fourth-place finish, clocking 15:06.99, which ranks fourth in the Atlantic 10 this season.
Other standout performances from the opening meet included Walt Bannerman, who placed third in the men's pole vault Group A with a mark of 5.21m. His performance ranks first in the Atlantic 10, 12th in Division I, and eighth on the NCAA East Qualifying List.
Davian Burke delivered a strong showing with second-place finishes in both the 110m hurdles (14.18) and the 400m hurdles (53.06). His 110m hurdles mark ranks second in the Atlantic 10 and 24th on the NCAA East Qualifying List, while his 400m hurdles time ranks first in the conference and 23rd on the NCAA East Qualifying List.
Paul McClain placed second in the 800m with a personal-best time of 1:50.95, ranking first in the Atlantic 10 and 25th on the NCAA East Qualifying List.
Kaela-Michelle O'Connor recorded a personal-best 13.91 in the 100m hurdles to finish second in the event. Her performance ranks second in the Atlantic 10 and sixth on George Mason's outdoor all-time list.
Caleb Hymans also earned a second-place finish in the men's 1500m, posting a personal-best time of 3:51.46, which ranks second in the Atlantic 10.
The Patriots return to action Thursday, March 26 through Saturday, March 28 at the Raleigh Relays, hosted by NC State.
