FAIRFAX, Va. – After day one, the George Mason women's track and field team is in prime position to capture its first Atlantic 10 indoor championship in five years.
The Mason women lead the team results with 49.5 points after six events scored on the first day of the Atlantic 10 Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday at the Field House. The Patriots lead two-time defending champ VCU (33 points).
The Mason men sit in third place with 30 points, just five points behind leader Massachusetts (35) and four points away from second-place Rhode Island. The final day is set to begin at 9 a.m. on Sunday at the Field House.
Sophomores
Kiana Stallworth and
Autumn White each captured their first A-10 gold medals. Stallworth won the long jump with a leap of 5.90 meters. White claimed the pole vault title with a mark of 3.85 meters. Mason went 1-2-3 in the pole vault as freshman
Hannah Robertson (3.65 meters) took silver and sophomore Victoria Burns (3.50) shared the bronze medal with Rhode Island's Jessica Ippolito.
The women's distance medley also earned a spot on the podium with a bronze medal. The relay team of junior

Abigail Williams, senior
Caitlin Kelly and junior Maggie Morgan finished third in 11:45.09.
On the men's side, sophomore
Benjamin Viau won a silver medal in the weight throw with a toss of 18.26 meters. Sophomore
Harrison Shotwell also won silver in the pole vault with a leap of 4.91 meters, just missing gold due to a jump off.

Chase Osborne and sophomore
Jake Lonsdale also took third in 10:07.93.
