VMI Winter Relays Results
The George Mason men's and women's indoor track and field teams enjoyed a successful last weekend of their regular season.
The Patriots split up and competed at two meets for one final tuneup before they host the Atlantic 10 Conference Indoor Championships on Feb. 23-24 at the George Mason Field House.
This past Friday and Saturday, Mason participated in the VMI Winter Relays in Lexington, Va., while a group of sprinters headed to the Spire Invitational in Geneva, Ohio.
At the Spire Invitational, senior
Sarah Moore and freshman
Kelly-Ann Downer finished first and second, respectively, in the 400-meter dash. Moore finished in an ECAC Championship qualifying time of 54.26 while Downer also qualified for the ECAC Championships with a personal-best time of 55.21.
In the 800-meter run, junior
Ashley Lewis also finished first with an ECAC qualifying time of 2:07.99. The 4x400-meter relay team of junior
Taylor Williams, Moore, Downer and Lewis placed second with a ECAC qualifying time of 3:42.28.
Sophomore
Kiana Stallworth reached the qualifying mark in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.68 with a time of 7.68. Stallworth also took fourth in the 200-meter dash in 25.02 while Williams finished fifth in 25.44.
On the men's side, senior
Rico Gomez placed third in the 300-meter dash with a time of 33.75. Junior Benson was not far behind in fifth with a time of 34.09. Senior
Kornelius Klah placed fifth in the 400-meter dash with a qualifying time of 48.25. In the 4x400-meter relay, senior
Xavier King Jr., junior
Evander Pierre, Benson and Gomez took second in an IC4A Championship qualifying time of 3:07.50.
At the VMI Winter Relays, the women won the 4,000-meter distance medley relay. The squad of freshmen
Noelle Saine and
Calise Moore, sophomore
Patrice Mitchell and freshman
Riley Freeland placed first in 12:37.85.
In the 1,000-meter run, junior Maggie Morgan took first in 2:55.53 and junior
Sarah Richart placed second in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 18:15.47.
On the men's side, sophomore
Nick Corbin won the 60-meter hurdles with an IC4A qualifying time of 8:13. In the 1,000-meter run, sophomore
Jake Lonsdale also took first in 2:30.43.
The Patriots now have next weekend off before hosting the A-10 Championships in two weeks at the Field House.
