TAMPA – For the third straight year, George Mason will have a representative at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Junior
Sarah Moore finished 11th in the 400-meter dash at the NCAA East Preliminary Championships on Friday to advance to the NCAA Championships on June 6-9 in Eugene, Ore.
Moore, a native of Silver Spring, Md., ran a personal-best time of 52.09 for the second-fastest time in program history. Moore, the two-time A-10 champ in the 400, was competing in her second straight NCAA East Preliminary Championship. She advanced out of the fastest heat, which saw five runners qualify for nationals. She had advanced to the quarterfinals after finishing 20th in the first round on Thursday.
She is the third Patriot in as many years to qualify for the NCAA Championships, joining
Michelle Wallerstedt (discus) last year and
Steven Flynn (5,000 meters) in 2016.
Mason wrapped up the weekend on Saturday with redshirt junior
John Seals and senior
Raeshawn Bishop in action. Seals, a native of Springfield, Va., tied for 28th with a jump of 2.06 meters (6 feet, 9 inches). Bishop, a native of Louisa County, Va., leapt 13.49 meters (44 feet, 3 1/4 inches) before fouling on his last two jumps to place 45th.
On Friday, sophomore
Ashley Lewis just missed the cut in the 800-meter run. The Boston native finished 14th with a personal-best time of 2:05.46, which is the third fastest time in program history. After finishing 18th in the first round on Thursday, Lewis was just three tenths of a second behind Villanova's McKenna Keegan (2:05.16), who grabbed the 12th and final qualifying spot on Friday.
Also on Friday, redshirt junior
Trent Lancaster, a native of nearby Sterling, Va., finished 45th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:31.55.
On Thursday, junior
Rico Gomez ran a season-best time of 46.91 in the first round of the 400-meter dash. The Upper Marlboro, Md., native, finished 29th, just outside of the top 24 times to advance to the quarterfinals. Redshirt junior
Blaine Lacey ran a time of 1:51.26 to finish 43rd in the 800-meter run.
