Patriots Shine in 10,000-Meter Run on First Day of Colonial Relays

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The George Mason men's and women's track and field teams got off to a hot start on Thursday at the 53rd Annual Colonial Relays at Zable Stadium.
 
The Patriots excelled in the 10,000-meter run, with three qualifying for the ECAC and IC4A Championships on May 11-13 in Princeton, N.J. On the women's side, Carolyn Conley, a junior from Purcellville, Va., placed eighth with a time of 36:46.84 to qualify for the ECAC Championships.
 
On the men's side, Ethan Newland placed 11th with a personal-best time of 30:51.92. The sophomore from Ashburn, Va., surpassed his previous personal best of 31:15.65 in the 10,000 meter run, which he posted in last year's Colonial Relays.
 
Redshirt freshman Andrew Carlin also qualified for the IC4A Championships, finishing with a personal-best time of 31:03.40. The Quinton, Va., native, placed 19th on Thursday.
 
In the field events, sophomore Zinnie Tabb-Reed finished fourth in the women's hammer throw with a distance of 134 feet, 1 inch.
 
The Colonial Relays continue on Friday and run through Saturday. A contingency of Patriots will also compete at the USC Gamecock Invitational on Saturday in Columbia, S.C.
