PHILADELPHIA -
Trent Lancaster was the first George Mason athlete to compete at the prestigious Penn Relays - and he delivered probably the best performance of the weekend.
The redshirt junior ran a personal-best in the 3,000-meter steeplechase on Thursday night to pace the Patriots at historic Franklin Field. His time of 9:08.60 was good enough for 12th overall and ninth-best among collegiate athletes.
The Sterling, Va., native, recorded the third-best performance in program history in the steeplechase.
Also competing at the Penn Relays on Friday was freshman
Benjamin Viau, who placed 16th in the discus with a toss of 149 feet, 11 inches. Senior
Pat Hodge took 29th in the hammer throw with a heave of 154 feet, 6 inches on Saturday. Freshmen
Avory Ransome (49 feet, 8 inches) and
Jaylen Simmons (48 feet, 3/4 inch) finished 30th and 40th, respectively, in the shot put on Friday.
The Mason men's and women's track and field teams return to action as they host the Atlantic 10 Championships on Saturday and Sunday at George Mason Stadium.
