FAIRFAX, Va. – After competing strong at their lone home meet of the regular season, three George Mason track and field athletes received weekly recognition from the Atlantic 10.
Blaine Lacey was named the A-10 Men's Track Performer of the Week,
John Seals was tabbed as the Men's Field Performer of the Week and
GJaudy John-Wallace was chosen as Women's Co-Rookie of the Week. It marked the second time during this indoor/outdoor season each student-athlete had received A-10 weekly honors.
Lacey, junior from Chesapeake, Va., finished third in the 800-meter run at the Mason Spring Invitational on Saturday at George Mason Stadium. He registered the fastest time in the Atlantic 10 this season with a time of 1:50.03. It qualifies him for the IC4A Championships and also ranks as the 34th fastest time in the NCAA East region.
Seals, a redshirt junior from Springfield, Va., posted three top-five finishes on Saturday. He won the high jump with a leap of 2.14m (7' 0.5") for the fifth best all-time mark at Mason. He also ranks first in the Atlantic 10 and 16th in the NCAA East region, while also qualifying for the IC4A Championships. Seals also placed fourth in the javelin with a throw of 53.84m (176' 8").
John-Wallace posted two of the fastest times in the Atlantic 10 this season in the 100-and 200-meter dashes at the Mason Spring Invitational on Saturday. The Uxbridge, Ontario, native, finished fifth in the 100-meter dash with the fastest time in the A-10 this year at 11.88 seconds. She also took seventh in the 200-meter dash with the second-fastest time in the A-10 at 24.19 seconds.
The Patriots return to action with a split weekend at two ACC schools, competing at the Virginia Challenge in Charlottesville, Va., and the Duke Invitational in Durham, N.C. Both meets will run Friday through Saturday.
