FAIRFAX, Va. – A small contingency of student-athletes from the George Mason men's and women's track and field teams will hit the road with just one week before one of the biggest meets of the year.
The Patriots will send jumpers, weight throwers and middle distance and distance runners to the VMI Winter Relays on Friday and Saturday in Lexington, Va. Coming off a busy and successful weekend at two meets in Boston last weekend and with the Atlantic 10 Conference Indoor Championships next week, Mason will keep it light this weekend with just 16 student-athletes in action.
"We're happy with where the team is heading into A-10s next week," head coach Andrew Gerard
said. "We're primarily taking folks who won't compete at A-10s next week or some who need to fine-tune some things technically before conference."
The men's weight throw begins at 2 p.m. on Friday. Kiana Stallworth
is the lone Mason sprinter in action, competing in the 60-meter dash on Friday. Field events begin at 10 a.m. Saturday with the men's long jump.
A much larger crew of Patriots will compete next Saturday and Sunday at the A-10 Indoor Championships at the University of Rhode Island in Kingston, R.I. The Mason men look to defend their 2017 title.
