FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's lacrosse team hits the road for a tough in-state challenge.
The Patriots play No. 19 Virginia Tech at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Indoor Practice Facility in Blacksburg, Va. Mason aims to improve to 3-0 for the first time in 18 years.
The Hokies (3-2) are coming off a 17-14 victory over then-No. 13 Duke on Saturday to shoot up the rankings. Virginia Tech, which has lost to top 15 opponents James Madison and Southern California, was previously ranked 25th in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association's weekly poll.
Senior Tristan McGinley leads the Hokies with 14 goals in four games and freshman Emma Crooks has scored 10 goals. The Hokies have won the last two games against the Patriots, including an 11-10 overtime victory in Fairfax last year. Mason, however, leads the overall series 10-7.
The Patriots (2-0) are coming off a 21-6 victory over Longwood in their home opener on Saturday at George Mason Stadium. Junior

Erin Donoghue have scored five goals apiece. Tangeman leads the team with six assists and 11 points.
Donoghue, a midfielder from Mount Laurel, N.J., was named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week on Tuesday. She scored four goals against Longwood and finished the week with five goals on seven shots, six draw controls, three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
