KINGSTON, R.I. – After day one of the Atlantic 10 Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships, the George Mason men and women are right where they want to be – in contention.
The Patriot men and women both sit in second place after the first day of the conference meet on Saturday at the University of Rhode Island. The women (35.5) are just six points behind leader Dayton (41.5). The Mason men, the defending conference champs, have 34 points through five events. Rhode Island leads with 62 points.
Defending A-10 champ and conference record holder in the heptathlon
John Seals leads the event. The senior has 2,303 points with just three events remaining. Seals also took second in the pole vault with a mark of 4.91 meters.
On the women's side, the distance medley relay team of
Suzanne Abribat,
Kyla Carte,
Ciara Donohue and
Sharon Dorsey took silver in 11:47.14. In the pole vault, freshman
Autumn White also grabbed silver with a leap of 3.76 meters. Senior Shelby Garnard took bronze with a jump of 3.65 meters.
Freshman
Kiana Stallworth also finished second in the long jump with a leap of 5.72 meters for her first medal. The distance medley team of
Logan Miller,
Ekwochi Njeze,
Blaine Lacey and
Colin Cannon finished third in 10:00.01.
The second and final day of the A-10 Championships continues on Sunday.
