FAIRFAX, Va. – On the heels of the season-opening meet, a trio of George Mason track and field student-athletes have been honored by the Atlantic 10 Conference.
Senior
Nathan Schulte was named the A-10 Men's Track Performer of the Week and freshman
Avory Ransome was tabbed the Men's Rookie of the Week. On the women's side, freshman
GJaudy John-Wallace was named Women's Co-Rookie of the Week.
Schulte pieced together an outstanding first meet of the indoor season at the Father Diamond Invitational at the Field House on Saturday. The Fairfax, Va., native, won the 1,000-meter run and was a member of 4x800-meter relay and distance medley relay teams, which both finished first. In the 1,000-meter run, he took first with a time of 2:26.84, which is the fastest time in the Atlantic 10 this season. The 4x800-meter relay team won in a time of 7:36.36, which is also the fastest time in the A-10. He capped it off by helping the distance medley relay team win in a time of 10:42.80.
Ransome made an impressive collegiate debut, winning the shot put at the Father Diamond Invitational. The freshman from Pedricktown, N.J., finished first with a heave of 51 feet, 5 1/2 inches for the third-longest throw in indoor shot put in school history. The mark also was the best in the A-10 this year. He also placed 12th in the weight throw with a toss 39 feet, 9 1/4 inches.
John-Wallace won her first collegiate event, finishing first in the 60-meter dash at the season-opening Father Diamond Invitational on Saturday. The freshman from Uxbridge, Ontario, won the race with a time of 7.68, which is currently the fastest time in the Atlantic 10 this year.
The Patriots are back in action this weekend at Navy Invitational on Friday and Saturday in Annapolis, Md.
