FAIRFAX, Va. – On Saturday,
Sharon Dorsey and
Rico Gomez showed their mettle against formidable sprint competition.
On Tuesday, they were rewarded for their strong performances at the Navy Invitational on Saturday. Dorsey was named the Atlantic 10 Women's Track Performer of the Week and Gomez was named A-10 Men's Co-Track Performer of the Week.
Dorsey, a senior from Baltimore, collected a pair of first-place finishes at the Navy Invitational. The senior from Baltimore won the 500-meter dash in a time of 1:14.77 for the fastest time in the Atlantic 10 this season. She zoomed past SEC foe Maddie Beaubien (1:15.75) of South Carolina. She also led off the 4x400-meter relay team that finished first in 3:43.67 - the fastest time in the A-10 this year.
The junior from Upper Marlboro, Md., won the 400-meter dash in a time of 47.71, defeating Ty Jaye Robbins (48.60) of South Carolina. Gomez's time is currently the fastest in the conference this season. He also ran the anchor leg on the 4x400-meter relay, which placed second in 3:14.59 for the fastest time in the A-10 this year.
The Patriots return to action this Friday and Saturday with the Keydet Invitational at VMI in Lexington, Va.
